New York Sex, Boas's second photo-book following his now classic Starstruck: Photographs From a Fan - in which Boas documents his fetish for celebrity - reveals another concern of his: the pleasure and sex industries of 1970s and early 80s New York. Boas, whose goal was to create a library devoted to sex and pornography, lends his eye to New York's sex-clubs, bars, peep-shows and their characters; capturing the transient flamboyance and colour of a scene enlivened by growing sexual freedoms, but with the horror of the AIDS epidemic looming on the horizon.
